News on Cloud Atlas adaptation

I am tentatively excited about this news. Cloud Atlas happens to be one of my favorite books and a complex one at that. Working as a Russian Doll of a novel, the idea of its possible adaptation crossed my mind as I was finishing up the book, but the numerous interweaving of the stories and the epic time span had me convinced it would be very difficult to pull it off.

Now, the Wachowski (The Matrix) siblings and Tom Tykwer (Run Lola Run) have announced they are doing it, co-writing and co-directing with cast already announced. You can read those details at comingsoon.net through the link provided below.

So, excited? About a Cloud Atlas adaptation? Definitely. About Wachowskis working with Tykwer? About this being an amazing movie?? That is where my hesitation comes in. I don’t doubt the Wachowskis/Tykwer’s abilities, I only wonder if this novel might be too much to cram into two hours of film, which means it will have to be severely watered down, which unavoidably means the film will not do the book justice. Oh well…here is the link:
